The Clam: Fuel to the Fire
Our monthly live storytelling event featuring real, true stories told by YOU!
If you’ve heard of, listened to, or seen NPR’s The Moth, it’s kinda like that.
Sign up to tell a story!
Theme of the night: ‘Fuel to the Fire’
Please know your story “by heart” but not by rote memorization.
No notes, paper or cheat sheets allowed on stage.
You’ll have five minutes to woo the audience with tales of your on-theme escapades.
-
Your story should be told, not read. The storyteller better connects with the audience when there is no PAGE between them!
Have some stakes
Stakes are essential in live storytelling. What do you stand to gain or lose? Why is what happens in the story important to you? If you can’t answer this, then think of a different story. A story without stakes is an essay and is best experienced on the page, not the stage.
Start in the action.Have a great first line that sets up the stakes and grabs attention
Know your story well enough so you can have fun!
Enjoy yourself. Imagine you are at a dinner party, not a deposition. What not to do:

Ryan Lee Crosby + Ted Drozdowski Live!
The fingerstyle guitar maven, songwriter and powerfully emotional performer blends echoes of traditional music from Mississippi, Mali, and India into compelling songs that speak from—and to—the heart.
Ryan Lee Crosby’s latest album "Winter Hill Blues" captures the timeless power of music from Mississippi, refracted by influences of Indian slide guitar and Crosby’s own unique approach to the style. The songs resonate with a sound and spirit forged from his life as a traveling musician and his studies with traditional masters Jimmy "Duck" Holmes and RL Boyce. Produced by Fat Possum Records’ Bruce Watson at his Delta-Sonic Sound studio in Memphis.
Ted Drozdowski is an award-winning journalist and music historian, and a musician, songwriter, producer, and film consultant. He’s a maniac for slide and psychedelic guitar, and has toured and taught workshops internationally. Ted is also the proprietor of Coyote Motel, his psych-roots band, who star in the film The River: A Songwriter’s Stories of the South.

POPUP! with GEMINI
Gemini is a new Coastal New England concept based in Providence from a trio of Boston food scene veterans, Colin Kleeman, Sean Kleeman, and Patrick Brenner.
The name Gemini is a personal nod to the twins and Patrick (a Gemini himself), but it also taps into the constellation sailors once used for navigation and good luck. The food follows that spirit: it’s a mix of nostalgic Rhode Island and New England classics, but with a flair that’s experimental yet still humble and approachable.
Gemini will be running their Summer Menu:
local Scallop Tostada with passionfruit popping pearls
Beet & Watermelon salad
Lobster rilliette with Parkerhouse rolls
Squid Gildas with puttanesca vinaigrette
Tuna tartare with fried Saltines.

John Faraone + American Echoes + House Band
The next installment of the arc{hive} House Band Presents features: John Faraone + American Echoes
John Faraone is a Pawtucket-based singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist who has played drums in multiple bands in the decade he’s been active in the Rhode Island music scene. With a new album called The Waves due out this year, Faraone has been playing in clubs, theaters, and bars across the region fine tuning this new batch of songs. Of his debut album, Light Upon, Providence Monthly writes,
“John Faraone’s debut album Light Upon is the kind of slow search for clarity, purpose, and quality one would hope a musician undertakes to deliver their work. Whether he realizes it or not, Faraone has found the quality he’s been searching for.”
American Echoes is a duo that fuses identical twins Laura and Nina Ganci's influences based largely in Rhythm & Blues and Folk. They create a slight tension by the exploratory twisting of musical styles, enhanced by Laura’s diverse acoustic and electric guitar riffs, and their melodic harmonies that wax and wane from raspy to ethereal as they bounce across in stereo to deliver an emphatic experience.

Jet Sparks + House Band
Jet Sparks released her first album “What Could Not Be Buried” in 2002 under the moniker Emily Sparks, a character from a poem from Edgar Lee Masters’ “Spoon River Anthology” and subsequent Richard Buckner album, “The Hill”. It was only after touring the US that summer that she realized people were often trying to get her attention and she wasn’t turning around, since her name is not in fact, Emily.
Following that tour when she moved to Austin, Texas, she kept the “Sparks” part of the name, as it went pretty well with her nickname, Jet.
She spent 10 years in the Pacific Northwest after leaving Texas, and came back to her native Providence in 2019, writing songs and performing all along the way.
